SINGAPORE (AP): Trains continued to run smoothly between
Singapore and Malaysia yesterday, the second day after Singapore
abandoned its joint custom point with Malaysia and moved to a new
location in Woodlands.
Malaysia has refused to relocate and its immigration officers
have continued to work at the old location in Tanjong Pagar, in
downtown Singapore. But they have stopped stamping passengers'
passports, thus avoiding problems with Singapore's immigration at
Woodlands.
Singapore proclaimed the Tanjong Pagar checkpoint illegal,
saying it would allow people to obtain permission to enter
Malaysia before gaining clearance to exit Singapore.
Singapore said that all immigration stamps made by Malaysian
officers at Tanjong Pagar station on Singapore and other
passports will be "unauthorized and improper". It also warned
foreign passengers with such unauthorized travel permits on their
passports that they may face difficulties at Singapore
immigration checkpoints.
