The restriction on the number of tourist visits (quota) to Komodo National Park in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) will be evaluated in three to six months’ time. “Essentially, we will review the impacts in about three to six months ahead. It will be evaluated,” said East Nusa Tenggara Governor Melki Laka Lena, quoted from Antara on Thursday (16/4/2026). According to him, the central government has conducted calculations. Several factors were considered before the 1,000 tourists per day quota was introduced. The main factor of concern is ecological issues and Komodo conservation. Melki assessed that this policy could make tourists stay longer in Labuan Bajo. If tourists stay longer, the economic circulation in the area will increase. Previously, the Komodo National Park Authority set the tourist quota in the national park. This 1,000 people per day quota restriction has been in effect since the beginning of April 2026, precisely on Wednesday (1/4/2026). “The visit restriction does not immediately damage the image of Komodo National Park. On the contrary, if designed and communicated properly, this policy can strengthen Komodo’s positioning as a world-class destination that prioritises quality and sustainability,” explained Taufan. He added that the 1,000 tourists per day restriction is seen as an understandable and necessary step.
