SEMARANG (JP): The value of exports from Queensland to Indonesia reached nearly US$370 million for the 1994/95 fiscal year, a senior official from the Australian state said here yesterday.
Queensland Economic Development Minister Dough Slack said that the value of the state's imports from Indonesia was about $278 million during the same period.
Slack is currently in the Central Java provincial capital as the head of a visiting Queensland trade mission.
He said that improved business relations are expected to increase the volume of trade between the two areas.
Slack said that a number of Queensland companies are now operating in several business sectors in Central Java. Telstra, a major telecommunications company from Queensland, has invested US$630 million in the province's telecommunications sector.
Another Queensland-based construction firm is also conducting a feasibility study on the expansion of the Cilacap port in the province, he said. (har/hen)
