Bank Indonesia has announced that Indonesians can now conduct transactions or make payments using QRIS in South Korea. These transactions can be carried out through domestic applications without the need to exchange foreign currency.

BI Governor Perry Warjiyo explained that the transactions are conducted directly in the local currencies of both countries, making them more efficient and lower-cost for users.

“The connectivity of cross-border QR payments not only facilitates transactions but also strengthens SMEs, boosts tourism, and opens new opportunities for the business world, thereby supporting inclusive and sustainable economic growth,” said Perry in his official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, 2 April 2026.

It is known that on Wednesday (1/4), BI and the Bank of Korea officially launched the Indonesia-South Korea cross-border QR payment connectivity. This initiative is also part of the Joint Vision Statement (JVS) between Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, signed on Wednesday (1/4) in South Korea.

The inauguration of the cross-border QR payment connectivity was carried out by BI Governor Perry Warjiyo and Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea Sangdai Ryoo, marked by a ceremony held simultaneously in Indonesia and South Korea.

Perry stated that this inauguration is an important step in realising the shared vision of Indonesia and South Korea to build an integrated, efficient, and inclusive payment system as the foundation for digital economic connectivity between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of the Bank of Korea Chang Cheong-soo stated that the inauguration of the Indonesia-South Korea cross-border QR marks an important milestone reflecting the increasingly close cooperation between the two countries, particularly in strengthening the digital economy and finance.

“Going forward, we are committed to continuing to promote more strategic collaboration to strengthen payment system integration and support closer digital economic connectivity between Korea and Indonesia,” he said.

BI stated that the successful implementation of the Indonesia-South Korea cross-border QRIS is the result of synergy between BI, the Bank of Korea, the Indonesian Payment System Association (ASPI), the Korea Financial Telecommunications & Clearings Institute (KFTC), and participating financial institutions. BI and the Bank of Korea are committed to ensuring a secure, reliable, and efficient cross-border payment system to strengthen financial resilience and support inclusive economic growth.
