Qantas increases flights

CANBERRA (Reuter): Australia's International Air Services
Commission said it had approved Qantas Airways Ltd operating an
additional six return services to Indonesia, taking the airline's
frequency to 27 weekly flights.

"The increased number of services will also see the
commencement of services on three new routes: Brisbane to
Jakarta, Melbourne to Jakarta and Darwin to Timika (Irian Jaya),"
the commission said in a statement.

A spokesman for the commission said the extra flights would
amount to the equivalent of 1.8 return flights a week by a 400-
seat Boeing 747.

The commission, charged with allocating Australia's air
traffic rights between airlines, also approved an increase in the
number of Indonesian flights operated by the privately held
National Jet Systems.

The spokesman said National Jet would be allowed to reorganize
its island-hopping service from Australia's remote west coast to
Christmas Island, Bali and Singapore.
