Putri Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), chair of the PAN faction in the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), said the government has demonstrated readiness in anticipating the escalation of the Iran–US and Israel conflicts. Putri added that PAN would stand with the government to keep national energy secure. ‘The government has shown readiness. Our shared duty is to ensure stability remains and that the people are not burdened. PAN stands with the government to keep national energy secure while ensuring protection of people’s purchasing power,’ Putri Zulkifli Hasan told reporters on Wednesday (4 March 2026). Deputy Chair of Commission XII of the DPR also conveyed Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto’s statements regarding the safe fuel supply, indicating that the government has a prepared mitigation scenario. Indonesia has diversified energy import sources and strategic cooperation, so that alternative supply routes remain open in the event of a disruption to global distribution. ‘Indonesia has also diversified energy import sources and strategic cooperation, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Pertamina and American energy companies such as Chevron and ExxonMobil,’ she said. Nevertheless, Putri said the main challenge is not merely supply availability, but also the potential for a surge in world oil prices, which have now reached around USD 80 per barrel. ‘This price increase could raise pressure on the state budget, particularly on subsidies and energy compensation, and could affect the purchasing power of the people if not managed carefully,’ she said. Putri stated that the PAN faction supports the steps taken by the government to maintain energy and national fiscal stability. She stressed the importance of balancing safeguarding the health of the APBN with protecting the populace, especially vulnerable groups. Putri assured that the DPR’s oversight function will operate constructively and collaboratively. Commission XII will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and Pertamina to ensure the national stock of fuel is secure, the supply chain is under control, and procurement strategies are effectively implemented in the face of global dynamics. Putri also viewed this situation as an important moment to accelerate strengthening national energy resilience through increasing oil and gas lifting, optimising domestic resources, and accelerating the transition to new and renewable energy. She said dependence on geopolitical volatility must be gradually reduced through more self-reliant and sustainable energy policy.
