Putin-Xi Jinping Alliance: Beijing Declaration Condemns U.S. Hegemony and Donald Trump
A high-level diplomatic meeting in Asia has concluded with a hard-hitting statement aimed directly at Western leadership. The strategic alliance between Russia and China did not waste time in voicing their grievances and sharp criticisms of the current global order.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese Leader Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to sign a comprehensive joint declaration. The venue matched the one where Xi hosted US President Donald Trump last week, a symbolic reminder of a shifting balance of power.
The new document contains strong criticisms of United States foreign policy and directly targets the Trump administration. According to WP News, the declaration accuses Washington of destabilising global security and imposing a hegemonic order.
In their talks, the two leaders celebrated their deep strategic alignment. The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported Xi’s observation that the world faces a complex and unstable situation as unilateral hegemonism on the rise in the global arena.
To counter Western influence, the two countries formally extended their 2001 friendship treaty. The joint statement notes that efforts by some nations to manage world affairs alone have failed.
“The global situation is becoming more complex and there is a danger of the return of the ‘law of the jungle’,” reads the joint statement.
One of the main points of dispute is the United States’ plan to build a missile defence shield, dubbed the Golden Dome. Moscow and Beijing strongly oppose the project, arguing that it poses a real threat to strategic stability by upsetting the balance of military power.
The declaration also condemns recent US and Israeli military strikes. The document notes that such actions undermine stability in the Middle East and calls for a resumption of diplomatic negotiations on Iran immediately.
The document further accuses Washington of pursuing an irresponsibly cautious arms control policy following the end of the New START treaty. The two leaders express deep concerns over plans to deploy intermediate- and short-range missiles.
Beyond military issues, the alliance broadens its defensive rhetoric to Latin America. The declaration states that both countries oppose external powers’ interference in the internal affairs of nations in Latin America and the Caribbean under any pretext.
Although Beijing officially claims neutrality in the Ukraine conflict, economic ties with Moscow have strengthened. According to dpa, Putin highlighted Russia’s role as a major energy supplier with China as the primary buyer of its oil and gas. This cooperation underscores that the Eastern bloc is solidifying in the face of economic and political pressure from the West.
Putin’s visit to Beijing is a crucial moment for Xi to demonstrate parity with the United States and to bolster the China-Russia strategic alliance. Indeed, Trump’s realist approach to halting the United States’ decline remains a precedent that threatens the international order.
