Putin Invites Prabowo to Russia in May and July Next Year
Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to visit Russia again. Sugiono said that Prabowo was invited by Putin to attend an event in Kazan, Russia, in May 2026. ‘President Putin also extended an invitation for President Prabowo to attend the event in Kazan to be held in May,’ said Sugiono, quoted on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. In addition, Prabowo was also invited by Putin to come to Russia again in July 2026. Putin requested that Prabowo attend an industrial exhibition. ‘And also the major industrial exhibition to be held in July next year,’ he explained. ‘This is part of strengthening relations between the two countries, which is hoped to become increasingly intensive and bring benefits to both parties,’ he concluded. Previously reported, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin upon his arrival in Moscow on Monday, 13 April 2026, local time in the afternoon. The meeting, held at the Kremlin Palace, forms part of efforts to strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries amid evolving global dynamics. Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that the meeting between the two leaders lasted five hours, starting with two hours of bilateral discussions followed by three hours of one-on-one talks. During the meeting, the two countries agreed on several important points of strategic cooperation, particularly in the energy and mineral resources sector, which is a long-term priority for both nations. ‘Several points were agreed upon, including long-term cooperation in the ESDM sector, encompassing oil and gas energy resilience and downstream processing,’ said Cabinet Secretary Teddy in a written statement, quoted on Tuesday, 14 April 2026. Besides the energy sector, Cabinet Secretary Teddy stated that the two countries also reaffirmed their commitment to continue and expand cooperation in various other fields deemed to have a direct impact on national development. ‘Sustainability of several cooperations in the fields of education, technology research, agriculture, and investments in various sectors, especially industrial development in Indonesia,’ he added.
