Purwakarta Residents Flock to Cheap Food Movement
In an effort to assist the community in obtaining basic necessities at affordable prices, the Purwakarta Police District held a synchronised Cheap Food Movement (Gerakan Pangan Murah) event at the Purwakarta Police Headquarters hangar on Friday, 13 March.
Various essential commodity items were prepared for community members at prices more affordable than market rates.
Key staples offered at the event included subsidised rice, local rice, sugar, cooking oil (Minyak Kita brand), shallots, garlic, red chillies, bird’s eye chillies, chicken eggs, chicken meat, and wheat flour.
Public enthusiasm was notably high, with various commodities selling out rapidly. These included 1.5 tonnes of subsidised rice, 1 tonne of local rice, sugar, up to 4,000 litres of cooking oil (Minyak Kita brand), 1,000 kilogrammes of chicken eggs, and 1,000 kilogrammes of chicken meat.
Purwakarta Police Chief AKB I Dewa Putu Gede Anom Danujaya stated that the Cheap Food Movement represented the National Police’s commitment to assisting the community, particularly in meeting basic commodity needs at more affordable prices.
“The Cheap Food Movement is the Purwakarta Police District’s effort to help the community obtain basic necessities at more affordable prices, whilst supporting government endeavours to maintain the stability of basic commodity prices throughout the community,” he emphasised.
He added that the initiative also formed part of the National Police’s broader commitment to engaging with communities not solely in maintaining security and order, but also in providing direct social benefits to citizens.
“Through this Cheap Food Movement, we hope to alleviate the financial burden on residents and maintain the stability of basic commodity availability in Purwakarta District, particularly ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday season,” he concluded.
