Purchase of Pertalite and Solar Fuel Restricted Starting 1 April
The government is implementing restrictions on the purchase of subsidised fuel oil (BBM) types Pertalite and solar starting Tuesday, 1 April 2026. This policy regulates the maximum consumption limit for fuel for vehicles, particularly four-wheeled ones.
The regulation is contained in the Decree of the Head of the Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) Number 024/KOM/BPH.DBBM/2026, which was issued on 30 March 2026 and takes effect in early April.
BPH Migas Committee Member Fathul Nugroho did not deny the existence of the decree but has not provided detailed explanations.
“Please wait for the official statement from the government, planned for this afternoon or tomorrow,” Fathul said via written message on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
Meanwhile, Director General of Oil and Gas of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Laode Sulaeman and Pertamina Patra Niaga Corporate Secretary Roberth MV Dumatubun have not responded to questions sent via their mobile numbers.
In the BPH Migas decree, it is explained that the government has tasked PT Pertamina (Persero) with controlling the distribution of subsidised BBM to the public. One measure is to set a daily purchase limit per vehicle.
For Pertalite, four-wheeled vehicles, whether private or public transport, are only allowed to refuel a maximum of 50 litres per day. This provision also applies to public service vehicles such as ambulances, hearses, and fire trucks.
Meanwhile, solar restrictions are differentiated based on vehicle type. Four-wheeled vehicles are limited to 50 litres per day, while four-wheeled public transport is allowed up to 80 litres per day. For six-wheeled or more vehicles, the maximum limit reaches 200 litres per day.
In addition, public service vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks are also subject to a solar limit of 50 litres per day per vehicle.
The decree also states that purchases of BBM exceeding the quota will be charged at non-subsidised rates or calculated as general fuel oil (JBU).
