Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government plans to once again deploy economic stimulus for the second quarter of 2026, covering the period from April to June 2026.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that additional stimulus is needed for the domestic economy. This takes into account the significant global economic pressures, even though the realisation of economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 still managed to grow rapidly to 5.61% year-on-year, the highest since the third quarter of 2022.

“We are looking at all the existing economic variables, and it seems the government will still provide additional stimulus to the economy in this second quarter,” said Purbaya while leading the press conference of the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK) in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026).

Purbaya has not yet detailed the stimulus plan that has been prepared. However, he emphasised that the stimulus will support various government strategic acceleration programmes, strengthen incoming investments into the country, and encourage job creation.

He is confident that with the government’s various efforts to boost domestic economic activity amid significant global economic uncertainty, Indonesia’s economic growth throughout this year could reach 6% year-on-year.

“We will continue to push upwards, hopefully approaching 6% by the end of the year,” said Purbaya.

On the same occasion, Purbaya explained that the government is preparing a new incentive package for two-wheeled and four-wheeled electric vehicles, targeted to take effect from early June 2026.

He explained that the government is preparing incentives of around Rp 5 million for each purchase of a new electric motorcycle for 100,000 units.

“I have already discussed it with the Minister of Industry and we have also invoked it to the Coordinating Minister for the Economy. The budget is still being calculated, but the difference is for motorcycles, approximately 5 million rupiah per motorcycle for 100,000 motorcycles,” he said.

Meanwhile, for electric cars, the government is preparing an incentive scheme in the form of value-added tax (PPN) borne by the government with varying amounts. There are four-wheeled vehicles that receive up to 100% PPN incentives, while others receive around 40% reductions depending on the battery components used.

“The cars vary; some have 100% PPN borne, others 40% depending on the battery, but the number of cars is also 100,000. Later, we will calculate and prepare the budget. Clearly, I want it to be implemented starting from early June,” he said.
