Purbaya: The state budget remains strong to face a global crisis
Jakarta — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stated that the state budget (APBN) remains sufficiently robust to withstand potential prolonged global crises, including the impact of escalations in the Middle East.
After a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday night, 3 March, Purbaya said the government had discussed resilience scenarios for the budget if the crisis lasts longer than expected.
He noted that the projections are based on provisional analyses and current fiscal conditions which are still deemed good.
‘There are discussions, among other things, about whether the budget can withstand a protracted crisis and what the budget would look like. Based on our current analysis, it is still quite good, so there is no problem,’ Purbaya said.
Tax and customs revenues from January to February 2026 rose by around 30 percent.
‘That is a very significant figure. It means there has been a notable improvement in the economy and in people’s behaviour, including tax and customs,’ he explained.
Regarding national economic resilience amid the escalation between the United States and Iran, Purbaya said the government has run simulations across various oil-price scenarios for the current fiscal year.
‘So it can still be absorbed if oil prices rise, but if they rise to extreme levels, we will recalculate,’ he added.
