Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has spoken out regarding the viral news of tens of thousands of motorcycles bearing the logo of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). These motorcycles were planned for operational support in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme.

Purbaya explained that the procurement of motorcycles for MBG operations had been initiated last year. However, the budget was subsequently cut, and no allocation was made for this year.

“Last year it happened, but this year there is none,” he said at the Presidential Palace Complex on Tuesday (8/4/2026).

“We only found out later that the budget had been cut, if I’m not mistaken; I need to check with the director general of the budget again,” he added.

Purbaya emphasised that the budget for the electric motorcycles was cut last year. However, he was unaware that motorcycles had already been purchased from that procurement. Reports circulated that 21,000 motorcycles had already been acquired.

“Ask the Head of BGN; clearly, there is none this year. I just checked again,” he said.

“Yes, it was the budget from last year. There is none this year. We ensured there was none last year; at that time, it might have slipped through, so we stopped it,” he added.

In a separate occasion, the Head of the National Nutrition Agency, Dadan Hindayana, explained that the procurement of electric motorcycles was included in the 2025 planning. The realisation of the procurement that has been carried out has reached 21,800 units out of 24,400 units per year.

“And that was already included in the 2025 budget,” said Dadan at the Presidential Palace Complex.

Dadan explained that the price of the purchased electric motorcycles reached Rp 42 million, below the market price of Rp 52 million per unit. These motorcycles will later be distributed to SPPG in areas with difficult geographical conditions.

“Yes, this programme reaches areas that will be very difficult to access. It reaches villages and areas that can only be reached by motorcycle. This is to support operations,” he said.

Furthermore, according to Dadan, there is no further planning for the procurement of electric motorcycles budgeted for 2026.
