Purbaya Shares Experience of Filing SPT, Underpayment of Rp50 Million to 'Spinning' System
Jakarta, VIVA – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that he has completed the filing of his Annual Income Tax Notification Letter (SPT PPh) for individual taxpayers. In the filing process, he admitted to experiencing a tax underpayment amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.
Purbaya explained that underpayment in tax filings is a common occurrence, particularly for individuals with more than one source of income. This, he said, relates to tax calculations that are not fully accommodated in deductions from each income source.
“If you work in many places, you’re almost certainly going to underpay,” said Purbaya in Jakarta on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
He then compared his current situation to his previous role as Chairman of the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). At that time, he claimed he never experienced tax underpayment because his income came from only one institution.
However, the situation changed after he had more than one source of income in a tax year. In 2025, Purbaya stated that his income came from two sources, namely from the LPS and his current position at the Ministry of Finance.
When asked about the exact amount of the tax underpayment that must be settled, Purbaya estimated it to be around Rp50 million.
“It’s about Rp50 million,” Purbaya disclosed.
In addition to discussing the tax underpayment, Purbaya also highlighted the SPT filing process, which he believes has not run entirely smoothly. He admitted that he did not fill out the SPT independently and received assistance from tax officers during the filing process.
“I was accompanied by tax people (to fill out the SPT). Sometimes the system just spins,” he said.
This experience, Purbaya continued, serves as an important note for the government to continuously improve the tax administration system, particularly the Coretax software currently in use.
He assessed that system improvements need to be carried out continuously so that taxpayers can fulfil their obligations more easily and efficiently, especially ahead of the specified filing deadline.
As is known, Purbaya announced today that the government has extended the deadline for filing the annual SPT for individual taxpayers to 30 April 2026 from the previous 31 March 2026. This policy was taken because the filing period coincides with Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
