Purbaya Says There Are Naughty Individuals Causing Coretax to Run Slowly
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has disclosed suspicions of rogue individuals causing the Coretax system to run slowly and malfunction.
Following numerous complaints from the public, Purbaya conducted an investigation into the Coretax system. Upon examination, his team discovered that the system had been reconnected to services from a certain party that had previously been instructed not to be used.
“Coretax is a bit odd. Yesterday I investigated, and there was something looping around that suddenly reappeared. It turned out that a system had been plugged into a service from one company that I had already told them not to use, but it was used again,” Purbaya told reporters, as quoted on Monday (30/3/2026).
Purbaya suspects that certain parties are deliberately “tampering” with the system. He even claimed to have indications of the perpetrators involved and assured that he would follow up on the matter.
“I told them to change it again. I’ll investigate who’s playing around. So maybe I’ve already got the person. Using it again, using it again, using it again. I’m just astonished. He thinks I’m joking. But I’ll sort it out,” he said.
At the same time, Purbaya stated that the Coretax issues stem from flawed design and software that is not yet supportive.
“First, wrong design. With the new programme, why is it hard to use? It turns out one of the weaknesses is that you know there’s a software or application service connecting Coretax with taxpayers? It’s slower if you use that,” Purbaya revealed at the Ministry of Finance office in Jakarta on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
Purbaya disclosed that the Directorate General of Taxes will continue to make improvements to Coretax, particularly regarding the speed of data processing in the system.
In addition, Purbaya said that intensive socialisation and education need to be carried out for taxpayers so they better understand the tax terms used in the Coretax system.
“For the Coretax software itself, we’ll keep improving it; there’s a team for that here. If the complaint is that taxpayers can’t understand it, for example, the language is hard to comprehend, that can’t be fixed quickly, but we’ll improve it again,” he said.
On the other hand, Purbaya believes that the current Coretax system is far better than in previous years.
“But it’s not as bad as before, it’s improved, we’ll keep fixing it,” he said.
