Purbaya Reveals 'Naughty' Insiders at Coretax, Old Vendor Reinstated
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed allegations of violations committed by his subordinates in managing the Coretax system. These findings emerged after technical issues resurfaced in the system.
According to Purbaya, the Coretax system experienced disruptions in the form of repeated processes or looping. Although similar problems had previously been resolved and services declared normal.
Upon investigation, it was discovered that an internal party had secretly reintroduced a problematic old vendor. That vendor had previously been terminated due to slow service performance.
“Suddenly, there were reports again in Coretax that it was looping, even though it had previously disappeared. It turns out that in our place, there are naughty individuals who contracted with a vendor that we had already stopped because of its slow service, and they sneaked it back in,” said Purbaya at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026).
Purbaya emphasised that, to date, no one has admitted involvement in the incident. Nevertheless, he assured that a comprehensive examination would be conducted, and strict action taken against any proven violators.
“Now they won’t admit who sneaked in that vendor; later, I will check again who did it, and we will take action,” Purbaya stated firmly.
He then highlighted the peculiar design of Coretax. According to him, certain parties had made the Coretax design non-ideal, and those parties profited from the resulting issues in Coretax.
“The Coretax design is a bit odd. It should have been directly interfaced with the public when first created to make it easy. But it turned out to be complicated, with an interface application in the middle. This is being sold to large companies; I only just found out,” Purbaya explained.
However, a comprehensive overhaul cannot be undertaken in the near term because the system is still operational. For now, the focus is on securing the system and eliminating existing obstacles, before further improvements are made over the next year or so.
“I will sort it out. But not now, because it’s already running; in the next year, we will fix it. First, we secure all of Coretax, remove the obstacles, and then I will clean up that deliberately created interface space,” Purbaya added.
On the other hand, Purbaya stated that the reporting of Tax Notification Letters (SPT) will still be extended until the end of April because the number of taxpayers who have reported has not yet reached the target. To date, around 9 million taxpayers have submitted their SPT, while there are still about 7-8 million others who have not.
