Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that the implementation of export duties on coal and nickel will apply in June 2026, alongside the introduction of new royalty tariffs for mineral commodities currently being prepared by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). “Both seem likely. We’re aiming for June,” said Purbaya at his office in Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026). Purbaya stated that he had met with ESDM Minister Bahlil Lahadalia some time ago to discuss this policy on imposing export duties on coal and nickel. At that time, Bahlil, he said, already agreed on the implementation of export duties and even believed that they should be imposed on all mining commodities. “Across the board, Mr Bahlil said when I met him yesterday. Across the board means all mining goods,” he emphasised. Nevertheless, Purbaya could not yet elaborate further on the implementation of export duties for all mining commodities. He stressed that the policy must await the government regulation currently being drafted by the Ministry of ESDM. “But we’ll see the details once the PP is issued,” Purbaya remarked. As is known, the Ministry of ESDM is finalising plans to adjust royalty tariffs for several mineral commodities. The tariff adjustment aims to increase state revenues. The Ministry of ESDM also held a public consultation on Friday, 8 May 2026. The meeting discussed revisions to Government Regulation (PP) Number 19 of 2025 concerning Types and Tariffs of Non-Tax State Revenues Applicable to the Ministry of ESDM. In the material discussed, the revision of the regulation will establish adjustments to royalty tariffs for various mining commodities such as copper, gold, silver, nickel ore, and tin. The policy to be taken will also adjust the commodity cluster for cobalt as a by-product of nickel matte, adjust the commodity cluster for zinc concentrate and lead concentrate, add types and royalty tariffs for iron commodities, add types and royalty tariffs for cobalt as an accompanying mineral in processing and/or refining products other than nickel commodities, and add types and fixed levies for non-metallic minerals and rocks located more than 12 nautical miles offshore.
