Purbaya Highlights Widespread Use of "Joki" in Coretax, Admits System is Difficult to Use and Vows to Fix It
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has responded to the proliferation of the practice of using “joki” in the Coretax system or annual Tax Notice (SPT) reporting, which arises from loopholes in the design of the tax service. Purbaya acknowledged that the existence of intermediaries or joki is inseparable from opportunities that emerge when the system, which is admittedly not yet fully user-friendly, is in place. He stated that in economic activities, any available opportunities are usually exploited by certain parties to gain profit. “That’s economics; if there’s an opportunity, someone will jump in. But moving forward, we’ll fix it so that Coretax no longer requires joki. Apparently, the design has some flaws,” Purbaya told the media at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs on Monday (6/4/2026). He added that this situation leads some taxpayers (WP) to opt for intermediary services to access the system instead of using Coretax directly. Purbaya also revealed that system improvements will be carried out soon to ensure that the joki practice is no longer needed in the future. He assessed that the relatively short development and implementation time for Coretax was one of the causes of these loopholes. “Moving forward, we’ll correct it so that Coretax no longer needs joki,” he said. Furthermore, Purbaya admitted that he only became aware of these loopholes in the last less than a month. He emphasised that the government will promptly close off opportunities for third parties exploiting system weaknesses for business interests. According to him, the current situation seems to open doors for certain parties to take roles in the midst of the Coretax system, but this will soon be addressed. “I’ll sort it out later,” Purbaya said. The government assures that improvements will focus on simplifying the system to make it easier for the public to access, while also enhancing the security and integrity of digital tax services. Based on Kompas.com’s investigation, several accounts on the Threads platform openly offer annual Tax Notice (SPT) filling services, even at relatively low rates.
