Purbaya Assures No Further Tampering with Tax Amnesty, Asks DJP to Stop Causing Unease
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has assured that the government will not revisit or tamper with participants of the tax amnesty programme or the completed Voluntary Asset Disclosure Programme (PPS).
This assurance was given by Purbaya following controversy after Director General of Taxation Bimo Wijayanto mentioned plans to investigate PPS participants deemed not to have fully disclosed their assets.
Purbaya said he needed to provide direct clarification to prevent the business world and the public from becoming increasingly anxious.
“As long as I am Finance Minister, I will not conduct a tax amnesty,” said Purbaya during a media briefing at the Ministry of Finance on Monday (11/5/2026).
Purbaya even asked the Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) to maintain communication to avoid causing unease in the business world. According to him, several recent tax announcements have often triggered confusion in society.
“I will reprimand the DJP to always maintain the business climate and provide legal certainty to the public,” he stated.
Nevertheless, Purbaya emphasised that the government will still pursue taxpayers who did not participate in the tax amnesty or who failed to fulfil certain commitments in the programme, such as asset repatriation obligations.
“Except for commitments or promises that have not been fulfilled, that is what we will pursue,” he said.
However, he stressed that the government will not conduct a comprehensive re-examination of participants who have already joined the tax amnesty.
“If there are some assets that were missed, that is the government’s risk when conducting tax amnesty. It should have been checked thoroughly during execution. Once it’s finished, that’s it,” said Purbaya.
