Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – The Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, stated that the Langkahan Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM), in North Aceh Regency, has resumed providing clean water to the community after being disrupted by the recent floods.

“The water (from the Langkahan SPAM) has started flowing to the community, although it is not yet perfect,” said Dody Hanggodo in North Aceh, Tuesday.

Dody Hanggodo inspected the water purification process and the plan to build a new service system at the Langkahan SPAM in North Aceh.

During the visit, he directly checked the quality of the clean water that is now available at the Langkahan SPAM. He said that the water quality is still cloudy and needs to be improved.

Because it is not yet perfect, Dody instructed the Public Works Office to continue improving the water quality by adding chemicals or filters to make the water slightly better, considering that it is a necessity for the community.

“I have asked the Public Works Office to add some filters and chemicals to improve the quality further, because compared to the water quality in Aceh Tamiang, it is better, but it is still acceptable,” he said.

So far, the water from the Langkahan SPAM has been supplying clean water to three villages, with a capacity of 1,500 litres. Therefore, efforts are being made to increase production so that it can serve seven villages in the surrounding area.

In addition, Dody said that the Ministry of Public Works will also soon add a new SPAM service with a capacity of 50 litres per second. The new project is expected to be completed before the end of the year, so that the community in the entire area can have access to water 24 hours a day.

“Later, in addition to the new capacity of 50 litres per second that we are building, we will continue to utilise the existing system. Hopefully, the entire sub-district can have access to clean water again,” said Dody Hanggodo.
