Public Works Minister Inspects 252 Homes for Disaster Victims in South Tapanuli
JAKARTA — The Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo visited the readiness of hundreds of housing units for communities affected by disasters in South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, during Ramadan. The inspection was conducted to ensure residents could soon occupy better-quality housing before Eid al-Fitr.
During the working visit, Dody began his agenda by breaking the pre-dawn fast (sahur) together with residents already occupying housing units constructed by PT Nindya Karya.
The sahur gathering became a moment of fellowship between the government and disaster-affected communities. On this occasion, the government also heard directly about the conditions of residents now living in the housing area.
The housing complex was constructed on land covering 14,369.03 square metres with a total of 252 housing units distributed across 21 blocks.
For clean water requirements, the housing area utilises shallow boreholes and water tanks with a pump system. Meanwhile, electricity supply comes from PLN with 900 watts for each housing unit.
Currently, two shallow borehole points are available. The Public Works Ministry, together with PT Nindya Karya, is accelerating the expansion to four or five borehole points to ensure adequate water supply for all residents across the 21 blocks of housing.
“We are targeting that within the coming days the additional boreholes will be completed so that all eligible residents can soon occupy these temporary housing units,” Dody said in an official statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Through the development project, PT Nindya Karya stated its commitment to support the government’s post-disaster management programme.
The company also ensured that the construction process proceeded optimally by prioritising work quality, timely completion, and consistent application of occupational health and safety standards.
