Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo Explains Why Two Directors-General Resigned: Part of the President's 'Clean-Up' Drive
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo explained that the resignations of two officials at the director-general level within the Ministry of Public Works are part of an ongoing ‘clean-up’ effort within the ministry. The move is linked to findings of serious violations that are under internal investigation. According to Dody, the investigations into the two officials have been conducted by the ministry’s Inspectorate General for some time. However, at the early stage of the investigations, both chose to resign from their posts. “There have indeed been violations, and the violations are various. They point to serious violations. Could be gratification, could be an extramarital affair, could be various things,” Dody said when asked for comment. He explained that the decision to resign was taken before the ministry imposes further sanctions such as reassignment or dismissal without honour, which would have to be submitted to the President. “At the time of the first investigation, they chose to resign rather than I dismiss or remove them without honour to the President,” he said. Nevertheless, Dody declined to reveal details of the violations. He said all findings have been itemised by the Inspectorate General and reported to the President. He stressed that the reports on the case had already been conveyed to Prabowo Subianto before being forwarded to law enforcement authorities. “The process has been ongoing for a long time; we have reported to the President. After obtaining green light, we then informed the Prosecutor’s Office,” he said.
