Public facilities vital: Surjadi

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said the obligation
of developers to build public facilities in the city is aimed at
creating a peaceful atmosphere and to avoid public unrest.

"The facilities are for the people, not for the city
administration. They will ensure the people enjoy development.
And public unrest, which can ruin the economic situation in the
city, can be avoided," Surjadi said

The governor made the statement in a ceremony marking the
opening of two low cost apartment projects by PT Persada Kuningan
Group, a developer of luxurious apartments in Kuningan, South
Jakarta, yesterday.

Surjadi said developers should participate in creating a
stable atmosphere by providing public facilities.

"Developers should be obliged to maintain peace and security.
This can be done by obeying the regulations to build low cost
apartments in the city," Surjadi said.

PT Persada Kuningan Group is responsible for building 590 low
cost apartments, 298 being in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta
and 292 in Tanah Tinggi in Central Jakarta.

Governor Surjadi Soedirdja has expressed the hope that PD
Sarana Jaya, a city-owned developer which will manage the
apartments in Bendungan Hilir, will offer the houses to people
who deserve it.

"Don't just sell them to people who have no right to a low
cost apartment," Surjadi warned. (yns)
