The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs states that the 2026 Eid al-Fitr exodus momentum serves as one of the main drivers of national economic activity.

Spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, said that the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 period acts as a significant engine for household consumption.

The increased public mobility during that period not only drives household consumption but also boosts money circulation in various regions, thereby providing a more even economic impact.

“The latest Mandiri Spending Index weekly also confirms an increase in public consumption with a continuously rising trend (latest at 123.5), and the return has directly injected liquidity into the regions,” he stated in a press release received by Kompas.com on Saturday (28/3/2026).

In line with this, several business actors and associations estimate that the exodus will be an important engine for economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the previous year.

Data from the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs indicates that public consumption during the 2026 Eid period is estimated to grow by around 10 percent to 15 percent.

This growth has the potential to drive national economic growth in the range of 5.4 percent to 5.5 percent in the first quarter of 2026.

With strong consumption during that period, the government views that economic activity in the real sector will further increase, including through strengthened production and distribution.

This condition is expected to encourage increased industrial capacity utilisation as well as labour absorption in various sectors.

“We are optimistic that the business world will begin expansion. Hopefully, many business actors will start increasing machine and labour utilisation to restock products absorbed during Ramadan and Eid,” said Spokesperson Haryo.

This plays a role in driving economic growth while maintaining stability amid global dynamics.

“Regarding efficiency, this policy is still in the intensive discussion stage. However, the government’s target is not merely to save but to sharpen the budget so that it is channelled effectively,” said Haryo.

The government, according to Haryo, ensures that the National Budget (APBN) will remain a shock absorber amid global uncertainties.

The government is optimistic that the 2026 Eid exodus momentum, supported by strong public consumption and business responses, will continue to maintain national economic growth in a stable and sustainable manner.
