Puan Urges Government to Explain Reasons for Rise in Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices: Until When?
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the government to provide an explanation regarding the increase in prices of non-subsidised fuel oil (BBM). She also requested certainty on how long this price increase will last. Puan stated that the government must be transparent so that the public understands the reasons behind the policy of raising non-subsidised BBM prices. “Regarding the fuel prices with the existing increase, there must of course be fairness and an explanation given as to why the price has risen and until when,” Puan said to reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 22 April 2026. “Whether the price will continue to rise or not, and this evaluation must of course be conveyed periodically,” she added. Furthermore, Puan also encouraged the government to prepare mitigation measures for the impact of the war between Iran and the United States (US) on BBM prices in Indonesia. Because, according to Puan, the war between the US and Iran cannot be predicted until when it will end. “Whether this war will continue or stop. However, as a country not directly affected, we still must be prepared to anticipate and mitigate the possibilities that occur,” she concluded. Previously reported, PT Pertamina (Persero) has finally made an adjustment by increasing the prices of several non-subsidised BBM products, including Pertamax Turbo, Dexlite, and Pertamina Dex, starting today, Saturday, 18 April 2026.
