Puan Opens Session V of 2025-2026, DPR Ready to Continue Discussion on P2SK Bill
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani officially opened the Fifth Session of the 2025-2026 Legislative Year during a plenary meeting held at the Nusantara Building, Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/5/2026). In her opening speech, Puan outlined several legislative and oversight agendas that directly impact public welfare.
“The House of Representatives, together with the government, will continue discussions at the first level on several draft laws, including the Draft Law on Amendments to Law No. 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector, the Draft Law on Private International Law, the Draft Law on Amendments to Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics, and the Draft Law on Industrial Design,” Puan stated.
In addition to legislative functions, Puan emphasised that the House’s oversight role will be sharpened on various emerging issues in society. She detailed at least 16 strategic issues that must be promptly addressed by the government.
The first oversight focus will emphasise guarantees of public safety, national security, and population data integration in government services.
“Evaluation and audit of land transportation systems and infrastructure to ensure public safety, comprehensive evaluation of TNI security systems in mission areas and conflict zones, optimisation of E-KTP for digital integration in public services, comprehensive resolution of illegal mining in agrarian conflicts,” she explained.
Furthermore, she stressed the importance of law enforcement integrity and strengthening national economic stability, from food availability to the competitiveness of state-owned enterprises.
“Imposition of firm sanctions on law enforcers who violate professional ethics, ensuring a balance between the availability and affordability of basic necessities for the public, accelerating the implementation of sustainable practices in state-owned enterprises to maintain business continuity and enhance Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global market, developing industrial zones to strengthen downstream processing of agricultural and fisheries products,” she added.
The House of Representatives is giving serious attention to social protection issues, particularly for children and victims of violence, as well as the accuracy of social assistance beneficiary databases.
“Oversight of child care institutions and alternative care facilities, oversight of boarding educational institutions, guarantees for fulfilling the rights of victims of sexual violence crimes, comprehensive evaluation of the use of the national single social and economic data as the basis for determining premium assistance recipients,” she said.
The Indonesian House of Representatives will also highlight higher education, energy stock certainty for low-income communities, and the government’s preparedness in facing global economic turbulence.
“Evaluation of the implementation of computer-based written national selection exams, additional quotas for fuel and LPG to regions to prevent energy shortages that primarily affect fishermen and MSME actors, efforts to strengthen the rupiah exchange rate, and the government’s preparedness in facing risks of crude oil price uncertainty due to geopolitical conditions,” she stated.
On that occasion, Puan also reported the results of an audience with the Alliance of United Workers’ and People’s Movement during the recess period, which discussed national wage system reforms to agrarian reform policies. Puan assured that these matters would be promptly followed up by the relevant House working bodies.
Concluding her speech, Puan officially opened the session, which will run for the next two months.
“With the utterance of bismillahirrahmanirrahim, on behalf of the House of Representatives leadership, I hereby announce to all the people of Indonesia that Session 5 of the 2025-2026 Legislative Year commences from Tuesday, 12 May 2026, until 21 July 2026,” Puan asserted.
Puan also advised all House members to remain trustworthy in carrying out their duties.
“To the honourable House members, we convey our best wishes for working to champion public welfare. Let us carry out this people’s sovereignty function with full integrity and to the best of our ability,” she concluded.
