Jakarta — Employees of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) organised an iftar gathering welcoming 700 orphaned and underprivileged children in Jakarta and Gresik, with virtual participation from staff at operational areas in Kuala Kencana and Tembagapura, Mimika Regency, Central Papua.

“The presence of orphaned and underprivileged children amongst us gives positive energy and a sense of gratitude for being able to share with others. This aligns with our company values, particularly Respect and Commitment to the community and those in the PTFI environment, whether in Kuala Kencana, Tembagapura, Jakarta or Gresik,” said PTFI President Director Tony Wenas in an official statement.

The 700 orphaned and underprivileged children attending came from various foundations. In Jakarta, the activity involved 500 children from 11 foundations across the Jabodetabek region, including the Muslim Community of Papua. In Gresik, 200 children participated from foundations in the smelter area.

In addition to breaking the fast together, the event included games and the distribution of gifts and packages donated by PTFI employees from four work regions.

“We hope that the support we provide today will encourage our younger siblings to continue studying and pursue their aspirations,” said Tony.

Arif Latief, Chair of the MTAI (Al Ikhlas Islamic Assembly) at PTFI, explained that the initiative was conceived and executed by PTFI employees with full company support. Employees in Jakarta and Gresik collaborated with the Muslim Community Foundation (YMM) in Tembagapura and donors to make the event successful.

“PTFI’s presence must always bring benefits to all stakeholders. This event is proof that PTFI employees can collaborate and work in synergy, not only in work matters but also in social activities,” he said.

In Jakarta, the event was enlivened by performances from children’s storyteller Kak Awam Prakoso, who delivered expressive and interactive educational stories, followed by various games and contests that children participated in enthusiastically. The activity was also attended by PTFI management and 135 company employees.

Meanwhile, in Gresik, children from foundations in Manyar, Kebomas and Bungah districts also participated in the series of activities with enthusiasm.
