PT Tripatra wins $316 million contract

JAKARTA (Antara): PT Tripatra Engineers and Constructors has
been awarded a contract worth US$316 million to build a liquefied
natural gas (LNG) production facility for Mobil Exploration in
Arun, Lhokseumawe, Aceh province.

The contract to construct the North Sumatera Offshore "A" (NSO
A) plant was signed here Tuesday.

According to Tripatra president Pandri Prabowo, construction
of the project would be carried out in three stages.

Firstly, building of an offshore production platform,
secondly, construction of a marine pipeline, and the last stage
will involve the building of an onshore gas purification plant.

The 5,500-ton offshore platform will be erected in a depth of
108 meters in a location 100 kilometers northeast of Lhokseumawe.

The gas produced by the platform will be transported through
the 100 km pipeline to the purification plant for processing into
liquefied natural gas.

The plant will have a production capacity of 450 million cubic
feet per day (cfg/d), and the by products, including sulphur,
will reach 236 tons per day.

At the NSO A project several other sophisticated equipment
will also be installed, like a distribution control system (DCS)
which will control and monitor the activities of the offshore
platform from the land, he said.

Pandri said the LNG produced by NSO A, scheduled to be
operational in July 1999, will be added to the current LNG
produced in Arun.

Under the contract, Tripatra acted as main contractor in
cooperation with PT Mc Dermott Indonesia and Toyo Engineering
Corp. of Japan.

The "turn-key" project is the third major contract awarded to
Tripatra under a production sharing contract between Mobil
Exploration and the state oil company Pertamina.

Earlier, Tripatra signed a contract with Mobil to build an
Arun Booster Compression unit worth $US326 million and a similar
project in southern Lhokseumawe valued at $US36
million.
