Kediri (ANTARA) – PT Sinergi Gula Nasional Manajemen Kerja Sama Operasional (SGN MKSO) Kebun Dhoho in Kediri, East Java, is preparing land for sugarcane planting in order to achieve its target of supporting national sugar self-sufficiency. “Almost every day, we inspect the land to ensure that our planting programme is running smoothly,” said General Manager of PT SGN MKSO Kebun Dhoho, Juniyanto, in a statement received on Wednesday. He revealed that MKSO Kebun Dhoho currently manages 5,805.59 hectares of sugarcane fields, consisting of two zones, namely Zone Dhoho I, covering 2,055 hectares, located in the Plosoklaten sub-district, Kediri Regency. The second zone is Zone Dhoho II, covering 1,295.5 hectares, which includes several regencies in East Java, namely Kediri Regency, Tulungagung Regency, and Blitar Regency. He said that the programmes implemented by the company are running well, including all sugarcane planting programmes within the MKSO Kebun Dhoho environment. “Alhamdulillah, so far the programmes are running well,” he said. Juniyanto added that the challenges faced in the 2026 season for sugarcane planting are mainly due to unpredictable weather anomalies. He hopes that this condition will not have too much of an impact on sugarcane production, so that during the sugarcane milling season, the yield will be good. In the 2024-2025 planting season, Kebun Dhoho, with a sugarcane area of 3,357 hectares, can produce up to 311,151 tons of sugarcane. Sugar production can reach 26,591 tons. However, for the 2026 milling season, he has not yet provided much data. He also provides support to sugarcane farmers in the region, so that the sugarcane crop yields will be good. In addition, the company is also striving and optimistic that the sugarcane production can support the national sugar self-sufficiency programme. “We ask for prayers from all members of the community so that the results of the MKSO Kebun Dhoho crops this year are satisfactory and contribute to the success of the central government’s national sugar self-sufficiency programme,” he said. Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, is targeting national sugar production to reach 3 million tons in 2026 as a strategic step to strengthen sugar self-sufficiency, reduce imports, increase sugarcane productivity, and strengthen national food independence. He explained that production in 2025 is around 2.68 million tons and is targeted to increase to around 3 million tons in 2026. With this, the national consumption needs for white sugar can be met from domestic production. Minister Amran added that to achieve this, his ministry is targeting the expansion and optimisation of sugarcane land to 100,000 hectares as a strategic step to strengthen national sugar production. “The government is targeting the expansion and optimisation of sugarcane land to 100,000 hectares nationally, with about 70,000 hectares or 70 percent in East Java,” he said.
