PT Pos to issue Antara stamp

JAKARTA: National news agency LKBN Antara, in cooperation with state postal company PT Pos Indonesia, will launch a special stamp series on Dec. 13, 2002 in commemoration of Antara's 65th anniversary.

According to news agency director Mohammad Sobary, PT Pos Indonesia will issue 300,000 postal stamps in a Rp 1,000 denomination, as well as 10,000 postal envelopes at Rp 2,500 each, which will be sealed with a special postmark on launch day.

The special-edition stamps will bear the picture of the Antara building, and will be the second issued by the news agency after those published in 1987 on the occasion of its golden anniversary.

"Considering Antara's role in disseminating news of Indonesia's independence worldwide in 1945 and its prominent role today, it's to be expected that PT Pos would like to dedicate the stamp to it," PT Pos business manager Andang Widjaja said --Antara.

Graft cases rarely probed

JAKARTA: Despite the government's persistent campaign to eradicate corruption, only two of 49 graft cases have been processed at court, the Finance Development Comptroller (BPKP) said on Monday.

"In the past two years, there have been only two corruption cases processed at court," said spokesman of the office of the state minister of administrative reforms Akhmadsyah Naina.

According to Akhmadsyah, BPKP had submitted 49 corruption cases to the Attorney General's Office, which had cost the country Rp 89.5 billion in losses.

The latest BPKP report showed an increase on the 33 cases revealed last year. They caused a total of Rp 179.7 billion in state losses, but none of them was investigated by the Attorney General's Office.--Antara

'Syariah' only for Aceh: Hamzah

JAKARTA: Vice President Hamzah Haz asked other provinces on Monday not to demand the adoption of syariah (Islamic law) following its implementation in Aceh.

"Syariah has been implemented in Aceh, (but) it's not necessary for other provinces to follow suit," Hamzah said as quoted by Nicolaus Uskono, the chairman of the Catholic Youth Association after meeting the Vice President.

Hamzah was commenting on a proposal brought forward by a group of South Sulawesi people who suggested the adoption of Islamic law in the province. Jakarta has granted a special autonomy status to Aceh and allowed syariah to be implemented in the province.

Speaking in his capacity as chairman of the United Development Party (PPP), Hamzah has suggested that party executives in the province drop the bid, Nicolaus said.--Antara
