PT PAL Indonesia is collaborating with PT Industri Kapal Indonesia (Persero) or PT IKI to implement national shipyard consolidation through the construction of a multi-purpose Pinisi ship ordered by the South Sulawesi provincial government.

“This collaboration demonstrates that the national shipbuilding industry can grow together and produce high-quality products. Naturally, the component industry ecosystem will also grow,” said PT PAL Indonesia’s President Director Kaharuddin Djenod in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

The collaboration was marked by the signing of a memorandum of understanding between PT PAL Indonesia’s President Director Kaharuddin Djenod and PT IKI’s Acting President Director Suhan Ikhsan in Makassar on Saturday (25/04).

Kaharuddin emphasised that the collaboration between PT PAL and PT IKI represents the initial implementation of PT PAL’s role as the National Consolidator of shipyards, which is a directive from Danantara to strengthen collaboration among national shipyards within a single industrial ecosystem.

In the multi-purpose Pinisi ship construction project, PT PAL is responsible for ensuring material standards, quality control, and quality assurance proceed according to project requirements. Meanwhile, PT IKI focuses on the physical construction of the ship.

Suhan Ikhsan assured that PT IKI will deploy its best capabilities for the smooth and successful execution of the project. He also appreciated PT PAL’s initiative in involving PT IKI in the national shipyard consolidation efforts.

“Hopefully, through this project, technology and knowledge sharing can proceed optimally. Thus, under PAL’s leadership, all national shipyards, particularly IKI, can continue to grow and contribute to realising Indonesia’s maritime sovereignty,” said Suhan Ikhsan.

For information, on Saturday (25/04), PT PAL Indonesia signed a contract with the South Sulawesi provincial government for the construction of the multi-purpose Pinisi ship.

The signing was conducted by PT PAL Indonesia’s President Director Kaharuddin Djenod and a representative from the South Sulawesi Provincial Marine and Fisheries Office, Muhammad Ilyas, witnessed by South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman.

The multi-purpose Pinisi ship is designed to be 52 metres long with accommodation capacity for up to 140 people. The ship’s design adopts the characteristics of the traditional Pinisi vessel combined with modern technology to support various service functions.

In addition to serving as inter-island transportation, the ship is equipped with large fuel tanks to support the distribution of subsidised fuel to remote areas.

South Sulawesi Governor Andi Sudirman Sulaiman stated that the ship will become the main connector for inter-island connectivity in the South Sulawesi region.

“This ship will become the main connector for inter-island connectivity in the South Sulawesi region,” said Andi Sudirman.
