PT Obsidian Stainless Steel Employee Found Dead in Konawe
KONAWE – An employee of PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (OSS) with the initials JP (32) was found dead, hanging from a tree in a resident's garden in Paku Village, Morosi District, Konawe Regency, on Wednesday evening (11/6/2025).
JP, who served as the company's public relations officer, was found hanging from the tree at approximately 22:00 WITA, after having been reported missing by his family.
"The victim was found hanging from a tree. After receiving the report, we immediately went to the scene and conducted a crime scene investigation. The preliminary examination found no signs of violence on the victim's body," said Bondoala Police Chief Inspector Muh Heder Payapo on Thursday (12/6/2025).
Police suspect JP's act of suicide was motivated by domestic issues. This suspicion was reinforced by statements from relatives who mentioned that the victim had previously expressed intentions to end his life.
"According to the family, the victim had indeed expressed a desire to end his life. We suspect the motive is related to domestic problems the victim was experiencing," Inspector Heder added.
The medical team from Morosi Community Health Centre who conducted the examination confirmed that no signs of physical abuse were found, apart from ligature marks on the neck. Although the body had begun to swell, there were no signs of decomposition.
The victim's family declined an autopsy and chose to accept the incident as a tragedy. JP's body was subsequently taken to a mourning house approximately 200 metres from the scene for burial.
The police have conducted a crime scene investigation, interviewed a number of witnesses, and compiled an official report regarding the incident.
