Established in 1988, PT. Monagro Kimia is a joint-venture private company in Indonesia and a subsidiary of the Monsanto company in the U.S. Established in 1906 as a life sciences company, Monsanto is committed to finding solutions the world's needs for food and health by sharing common forms of science and technology among agriculture, nutrition and health.
In Indonesia, PT. Monagro Kimia is a market leader in agriculture herbicides, which are produced at its factory in Tangerang.
Among its line of herbicides is Roundup (R), a water-soluble liquid formulation of isopropylamine salt and N (phosphonomethyl) glycerine, a systemic herbicide that has a very low toxicity and does not persist in the soil; and Spark (R) and Polaris (R), both similar to Roundup but improved sophisticated formulations with faster action in order to eradicate weeds.
Roundup, Spark and Polaris are trademarks of Monsanto, U.S. These products are extensively used on plantation crops as well as by smallholder farmers in order to prepare the land before planting.
These products are produced in Indonesia under direct supervision of the Monsanto company in order to have as equally high a quality as the product produced in the U.S. or other countries.
"In 1998, PT. Monagro's sales decreased about 20 percent but this year, sales seem to be growing strongly," said Hans Bijlmer, President Director of PT Monagro Kimia. He added that Indonesia should focus on improvement of its agricultural sector by embracing new technologies, which will increase agricultural production and promote not only sufficiency but also exports of agricultural commodities.
Improved formulations and good services at competitive prices make satisfied customers, which is one of the reasons why Monagro's products perform best in the market.
