PT KAI ready to follow up on President's directive to inventory railway embankment areas
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) has stated its readiness to follow up on President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to conduct an inventory of areas and residents living around railway tracks, while also securing railway premises. KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin said this step follows the President’s inspection of the embankment area near Pasar Senen Station in Central Jakarta on Thursday (26/3), marking the beginning of accelerated improvements to areas surrounding railway tracks. “KAI supports the President’s instructions through the inventory of residents’ settlements around the tracks and area security. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with other ministries and parties for long-term measures,” Bobby stated in a written release received in Jakarta on Friday. The President has instructed KAI to inventory residents’ settlements along the embankments, starting from the Pasar Senen area and expanding to all similar tracks managed by KAI, as a basis for targeted improvements. Additionally, the President emphasised the need to prepare structured housing solutions through collaboration with relevant ministries, both in the short and long term. Bobby said that for the Pasar Senen area, KAI will conduct checks and further studies as an initial stage, which will then be expanded to other points along the railway tracks. The embankment area improvements are directed towards providing decent housing while creating a safer and more orderly environment around the tracks. In line with this, KAI plays a role in improving community living standards through more structured area improvements, connected to economic centres, and strengthening access to economic opportunities around the tracks. “Improving settlements around the tracks is an important part of providing a more decent environment for the community while strengthening railway travel safety,” Bobby added. KAI manages more than 327 million square metres of railway land with potential to support housing development. In the Jabodetabek region, the development potential reaches around 131,000 housing units located near transportation hubs. “KAI is following up on the President’s instructions through three main steps: inventorying residents’ settlements around the tracks, securing railway areas, and collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions and with other parties for long-term measures to support decent housing and improve community living standards,” Bobby stated.
