PT Air Minum Giri Menang (AMGM) has reached its maximum water distribution capacity of 1,500 litres per second. With this figure, the number of customers that can be served is estimated to be up to 150,000. Managing Director, Sudirman, said the bottleneck is caused by the water discharge not increasing over the past six years. On the other hand, Sudirman acknowledged that residents of Mataram City and West Lombok Regency who want to apply for water connections continue to grow. ‘Because indeed the water amount over the last six years has not increased. Meanwhile the number of customers has continued to grow,’ said Sudirman, on Tuesday (3 March 2026). Sudirman said increasing the water discharge would require expanding the network. However, he added, such network expansion would require very large costs. He said AMGM is currently unable to fund such expansion independently. Nevertheless, AMGM has prepared a scheme to overcome the capacity bottleneck, including raising tariffs for upper-middle-class customers. In addition, Sudirman continued, AMGM has also been working with developers to build a new ground tank. The structure would serve to store the remaining overnight water discharge so it can be distributed the following day. Sudirman said the ground tank would be sufficient to provide connections for new customers. He claimed it would also help boost water pressure during peak usage times. ‘The remaining water discharge is usually available in the middle of the night. Even if only a little, we store that water at night and push it during peak usage hours,’ he said.
