PSSI Accelerates Coaching Personnel Development: 2,500 Participants in West Java Poised to Break MURI Record
Jakarta — The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has officially designated West Java as the national pilot project for an accelerated human resources development programme in coaching.
Through this initiative, 2,500 coaches will undertake D-licence training simultaneously across 27 regencies and cities throughout West Java in early May 2026, projected to break a MURI record.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir emphasised that this step represents a vital foundation for the future of Indonesian football. “We want to build quality football from the grassroots. West Java is the starting point, and I hope that PSSI in other provinces will soon follow similar steps to ensure adequate coaching standards throughout the regions,” Erick said in an official statement on Tuesday (3 March 2026).
Within just one week of being announced at the PSSI West Java members’ meeting, 1,260 participants had officially registered from 16 initial regions. Registration remains open until the quota is filled or by 31 March 2026 at the latest.
The high level of participant interest demonstrates collective awareness that coaching quality is the key, not merely quantity. This has been met with a positive response from Youth and Sports Offices (Dispora) at regency and city levels, which have provided full support through complimentary sports facilities and classrooms.
In addition to receiving the official PSSI curriculum and standard training equipment, each participant will also be provided with Adidas T-shirts and size 4 footballs by PSSI. This equipment is provided to support coaches when they return to their respective regions to mentor young talent.
Synergy between local government, the spirit of PSSI at regency and city levels, and the enthusiasm of football enthusiasts in West Java is expected to serve as a catalyst for revitalising the quality of national football, beginning from the sidelines of the training pitch.
