PSS Sleman Make Super League Their Main Focus
Jakarta (ANTARA) – PSS Sleman coach Pieter Huistra has said the BRI Super League remains the main focus for his team, despite their participation in the League Cup this season.
Quoted by the club’s official website on Wednesday, Pieter said the League Cup was not yet a priority because the competition was still some way off.
He said he wanted PSS Sleman to maintain its focus and positive momentum in the main competition after a 3-0 win over PSM Makassar in the fourth week of the Super League.
“Honestly, we are not thinking too much about the League Cup at the moment because the competition is still some way off. Our focus now is only on the Super League, because that is the most important thing for us,” Pieter said.
As well as having a different schedule, the League Cup has its own regulations, including a limit of three foreign players who can be registered.
Pieter said the rules could also give PSS an opportunity to field players who have had limited playing time in the Super League.
The Dutch coach said the tournament could be a chance for them to demonstrate their abilities and contribute to the team.
“So we may use the League Cup as an opportunity for other players who have not had much playing time in the Super League to play,” Pieter said.
In the BRI Super League, PSS Sleman have climbed to 12th place in the provisional standings, with three points from four matches, two points clear of the relegation zone.
In the League Cup, PSS Sleman are in Group F alongside Garudayaksa FC and PSGC Ciamis.
