If we think ideally, what is the purpose of establishing this threshold restriction? As many stories from the DPR and political parties say, ‘Oh, this is to streamline, so there isn’t chaos in the DPR.’ But one thing is forgotten: in the DPR, there are no representatives from parties, no political parties, but representatives of political parties through factions,” said the Acting Chairman of the PSI Central Executive Board, Ahmad Ali (Mad Ali), to reporters at the PSI Central Executive Board office in Central Jakarta, Tuesday (5/5/2026). Mad Ali mentioned that there are consequences if the parliamentary threshold is still enforced. According to him, voices of the people will be lost if it is implemented. “If it is like that, then by limiting and establishing a threshold like that, there are consequences that arise, namely the loss of the people’s voices. The loss of the community’s voices,” he said. Mad Ali also recalled the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling on the presidential nomination threshold. According to him, the MK philosophically wants to ensure that the people’s voices are not simply discarded. “Because if we look at the spirit of the Constitutional Court Decision on the presidential threshold which is zero, that every political party entitled to nominate a president, then what does that mean? Their philosophy is to ensure that political parties that are chosen, that become election participants, certainly will have votes, whether it’s one vote,” he said. Previously, Yusril proposed that the number of commissions in the DPR RI be made the threshold for political parties participating in the legislative elections. He proposed that every political party must obtain at least 13 seats in the DPR RI because there are 13 commissions in the DPR RI. “For example, what is used as a reference is actually how many commissions there are in the DPR. Well, that is now regulated in the rules of procedure, it should be regulated in the law,” said Yusril, quoted by Antara, Thursday (30/4). He said that parties that cannot reach 13 seats can form a joint coalition that is also at least 13 seats or more. In addition, they can join the faction of a larger party. “In this way, no voices are lost and it is fair enough for all of us,” he said.
