Protesters demand speedy graft probe

BANDUNG: Some 500 people staged a protest on Thursday in front of the West Java Prosecutor's Office, demanding the prosecutors to speed up investigations into a Rp 33.4 billion (US$3.6 million) graft, allegedly committed by the West Java councillors.

In response to the demand, chief of the West Java Prosecutor's Office Charles Mindamora, said that the prosecutors were writing dossiers on the case, and that the office would soon hand over the dossiers to court for prosecution.

The protesters, Indonesian Grass Root Society, occupied the office for four hours in the protest, causing heavy congestion on the street in front of the office. -- JP
