Jakarta, VIVA – Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) together with PT Weda Bay Nickel (WBN) have reaffirmed their commitment to continuously strengthening the implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety (K3) culture as the primary foundation of their industrial operations.

Iwan Kurniawan, General Manager of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) at IWIP and Head of Mining Engineering at WBN, expressed his hope that the implementation of this OHS culture would create a safe, orderly and sustainable environment, whilst safeguarding workers’ safety across all industrial activities.

“An OHS culture is built through consistent implementation and the participation of all parties. We are using the momentum of National OHS Month to strengthen risk awareness, work discipline and shared responsibility in maintaining workplace safety,” Iwan said in a statement on Tuesday, 24 February 2025.

He added that the strengthening of OHS culture is also aligned with the five OHS culture development strategies set out by the Ministry of Manpower, namely: education and training; worker involvement; system improvements and the utilisation of safety technology; enforcement of regulations through periodic inspections; and committed leadership.

“Within this framework, IWIP, WBN and their tenants are using National OHS Month 2026 as a strategic moment to strengthen safety awareness and discipline across all operational lines,” he said.

During National OHS Month 2026, which ran from 8 January to 14 February 2026, IWIP, WBN and their tenants organised a range of educational and participatory activities designed to strengthen practical understanding of OHS.

The programme of activities included a health seminar themed “Building a Heart-Healthy Lifestyle in the Industrial Environment”, a blood donation drive, and various workplace safety challenges such as a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) Challenge, Defensive Driving Challenge, 5S implementation competition, interactive Safety Talks, a Mini Search and Rescue Challenge, as well as article writing and OHS-themed animation video production competitions.

Iwan added that the entire series of activities was intended not only as an educational exercise but also as a medium for collective learning and evaluation of safety practices in the field. He noted that this participatory approach enables workers to be actively involved in identifying potential hazards and understanding appropriate preventive measures.
