JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, will monitor the policy implementation of the Government Regulation on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), and stakeholders are collaborating to ensure that digital platforms adhere to the regulation, thereby strengthening the protection of children’s personal data.

“We will continue to monitor the implementation of the policy on restricting social media access for children under 16 years old in accordance with the mandate of PP Tunas,” said Arifah in her statement on Monday (30/3/2026).

“We see that inappropriate use of social media by children can have negative impacts on their growth and development, ranging from addiction, mental health disorders, to the risk of digital-based violence,” she added.

Due to these risks, the government is striving to build a holistic, effective child protection system in the digital space that aligns with the best interests of the child.

“For us, this policy is not merely about restricting access, but a collective effort to ensure that the digital space becomes a safe place for optimal child development,” said Arifah.

Therefore, Arifah urged digital platforms to comply with applicable provisions as part of shared responsibility in realising child protection in the digital space.

She hopes that parents will be present not only to supervise but also to build open communication and provide understanding about risks in the digital space.

“Parents must be able to guide children to utilise technology positively in accordance with their age and developmental stage,” she added.

Previously reported, the PP Tunas regulation requires all digital platforms to limit children’s access according to age and strengthen the protection of children’s personal data.

PP Tunas has been effectively implemented since 28 March 2026, and every digital platform entity operating digitally is obliged to comply with the provisions of the regulation.
