A prospective Hajj pilgrim in Cianjur Regency, West Java, has passed away. The deceased suffered a stroke last week.

The pilgrim was Denden Rostiati Wirasonjaya, an 81-year-old resident of Jalan Dr Muwardi (Bypass) Gang Swadaya 7, Kampung Bojongpilar, Kelurahan Bojongherang, Cianjur District.

She passed away on Wednesday (8/4) at 08.10 WIB. Her death occurred just as all administrative processes for the Hajj departure were nearly complete.

The Head of Administrative Sub-section of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) in Cianjur Regency, Emma Siti Fatimah, along with her team, paid condolences at the family home.

“Overall, the departure process for the pilgrims is complete. Only vaccination remains, which is scheduled to be carried out soon,” Emma told reporters after the condolences on Thursday (9/4).

Previously, the deceased was in good health. She had been declared to meet the istitha’ah requirements or ability to perform Hajj. However, she suffered a stroke attack.

“A week before passing away, she had a stroke. Previously, there were no issues at all. Her condition was healthy, and all requirements were fulfilled,” she explained.

This year, the number of prospective Hajj pilgrims from Cianjur Regency totals 74 people. They are accompanied by one KBIH (Kelompok Bimbingan Ibadah Haji) guide and five cluster officers.

All pilgrims are grouped in flight cluster JKS 24, scheduled to depart on 17 May 2026.

Emma emphasised that the family must promptly complete the administrative documents for the departure postponement process.

“The family must prepare a postponement certificate letter, attaching the Death Certificate and ID card. After that, we will report it to the Regional Office for the issuance of an official letter,” she explained.

The decision on transferring the Hajj quota or full cancellation is entirely up to the family through consultation. If it is decided to cancel, the entire Hajj fee will be refunded in full without deductions. “The funds will be directly transferred to the heir’s account,” she clarified.

Replacement of the pilgrim quota is not immediately taken from the district-level waiting list. The replacement is under the authority of the Regional Office based on the queue order. “So it is not necessarily from Cianjur,” she concluded.
