Prosecutors Urge Judge to Reject Defence Pleas of Two Former Subordinates of Nadiem in Chromebook Case
Public prosecutors (JPU) have requested the panel of judges to reject the defence notes or pleas of two former subordinates of ex-Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Anwar Makarim. The prosecutors asked the judges to declare them guilty in the alleged corruption case concerning the procurement of Chromebooks and Chrome Device Management (CDM).
This was conveyed by the prosecutors during the reading of their rebuttal at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Friday (24/4/2026). The two former subordinates of Nadiem are Sri Wahyuningsih, former Director of Primary Schools at the Directorate General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Secondary Education from 2020-2021, and Mulyatsyah, former Director of Junior High Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology in 2020.
The prosecutors stated that the core of the pleas submitted by Sri, Mulyatsyah, and their legal team contradict the facts presented in the trial. The prosecutors are convinced that the indictment against Sri and Mulyatsyah is based on facts obtained from valid evidence, including witness testimonies, expert opinions, documents, defendant statements, physical evidence, and electronic evidence.
“Regarding the main points of the defence presented by the defendant’s legal advisors, the Public Prosecutor will provide a comprehensive response based on valid evidence as presented in court, namely arguments number one and onwards as set out in this rebuttal,” the prosecutors said.
The prosecutors reiterated their stance on the indictment against Sri and Mulyatsyah. They requested the judges to still sentence Sri and Mulyatsyah to six years in prison each, as per the indictment.
“We request the Panel of Judges of the Corruption Crimes Court at the Central Jakarta District Court, which is examining and trying this case, to decide to declare the defence or plea submitted by the defendant and the defendant’s legal advisors rejected or unacceptable,” the prosecutors stated.
“To remain on the Public Prosecutor’s indictment that was read in the previous court session on Thursday, 16 April 2026. To sentence the defendant Mulyatsyah as stated in the Public Prosecutor’s indictment,” the prosecutors added.
The indictment hearing for Sri Wahyuningsih and Mulyatsyah was previously held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (16/4). The prosecutors are convinced that both are guilty of corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM), causing a state loss of Rp2.1 trillion.
“We demand that the panel of judges declare the defendants proven guilty in a lawful and convincing manner of jointly committing the criminal act of corruption,” the prosecutors said.
Sri Wahyuningsih is demanded six years in prison and a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary 120 days’ imprisonment. Meanwhile, Mulyatsyah is demanded six years in prison, a fine of Rp500 million, subsidiary 120 days’ imprisonment, and restitution of Rp2.28 billion, subsidiary three years’ imprisonment.
The JPU believes the defendants are guilty of violating Article 603 jo. Article 20 of the Criminal Code jo. Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001.
