Prosecutor's Office Reveals Reasons for Appeal Against Riza Chalid's Associate Convictions
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Prosecutor’s Office has openly disclosed the reasons for appealing the verdicts handed down against nine defendants in the alleged corruption case involving crude oil and refinery product governance for the period 2018-2023.
“Regarding why we filed the appeal, there are several points that the prosecution believes were not adequately accommodated or considered,” stated Anang Supriatna, Head of the Attorney General’s Office Legal Information Centre, on Monday, 2 March 2026.
He noted that these points include matters concerning state economic losses and the imposition of compensatory damages that were not applied to certain defendants. Additionally, sentences that were lighter than the prosecution’s original demands were also included in the appeal memorandum.
The Attorney General’s Office filed the appeal on Friday, 27 February 2026, one day after the verdicts were delivered on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
During the hearing that ran from Thursday, 26 February 2026, at approximately 16:00 WIB until Friday, 27 February 2026, at approximately 04:00 WIB, the Anti-Corruption Court panel at the Jakarta Central District Court delivered sentences to nine defendants in the crude oil and refinery product governance corruption case covering 2018-2023.
In the first cluster hearing held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at approximately 16:00 WIB, three executives received verdicts: Riva Siahaan (Chief Executive Officer of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023), Maya Kusuma (Director of Central Marketing and Commerce at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga in 2023), and Edward Corne (Vice President of Product Trading at Pertamina Patra Niaga, 2023-2025).
Riva and Maya were sentenced to 9 years imprisonment, whilst Edward received 10 years. All three were also ordered to pay fines of Rp1 billion each, with an alternative of 190 days additional imprisonment.
In the second cluster hearing held on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at approximately 21:00 WIB, sentences were delivered to three more defendants: Yoki Firnandi (Chief Executive Officer of PT Pertamina International Shipping in 2022-2024), Agus Purwono (Vice President of Feedstock Management at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional in 2023-2024), and Sani Dinar Saifudin (Director of Feedstock and Product Optimisation at PT KPI, 2022-2025).
Yoki and Sani each received 9-year sentences, whilst Agus received 10 years. All three were also ordered to pay fines of Rp1 billion each, with an alternative of 190 days additional imprisonment.
