Prosecutors correct Tommy's dossiers

Damar Harsanto, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Prosecutors suggested corrections to dossiers on the murder of Supreme Court Justice M. Syafiuddin Kartasasmita on Tuesday after attending a presentation made by the police on the results of their investigation into Hutomo "Tommy" Mandala Putra's alleged role in the murder.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam said that prosecutors gave few corrections to the dossiers.

"The talks led to the completion of the dossiers," he told reporters after the three-hour meeting with prosecutors.

Unlike what had been stated by police that the meeting would present two dossiers, on the murder of Syafiuddin and the illegal possession of guns, Wednesday's presentation focused on the murder of Syafiuddin.

"Only guns linked to the murder were discussed in the meeting. But, the case of illegal possession of other firearms and ammunition will be presented next time," Anton said without elaborating.

Separately, Antasari Azhar, head of the South Jakarta Prosecutors' Office and assistant to the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutors' Office chief on general crimes confirmed that he had given some inputs to the interrogators.

He declined to elaborate, saying the police interrogation was still in process.

"As prosecutors, we come here only to monitor how far the interrogation has progressed," he told reporters.

Antasari said prosecutors had not yet received any dossiers from the police.

"Once we receive the dossiers, we will immediately examine them. Should we find them incomplete, we will return them to the investigators for completion," Antasari said.

Anton said police were confident that the evidence gathered in the investigation and witnesses' testimony, would be sufficient to bring Tommy to court.

Police, have questioned 58 witnesses over the murder of Syafiuddin, who sentenced Tommy to 18 months jail in September last year for corruption.
