Prosecution seeks death for heroin smuggler
Prosecutors Anwarudin and Eben Silalahi proposed a death sentence for Nigerian national Sylvester Obiekwe Nwolise, who has been charged with smuggling 1.2 kilograms of heroin from Pakistan into the country late last year.
Reading their final arguments before a panel of judges at the Tangerang District Court, the prosecutors stated that the evidence and testimony had proven the defendant to be guilty.
Nwolise was arrested at Sukarno-Hatta Airport on December 21 after a city police detective received information that the defendant would arrive with the drugs on a flight from Pakistan.
Later, following a tip-off from Nwolise, the police then managed to foil another smuggling attempt of 1.5 kilograms of heroin from Pakistan and arrested another Nigerian, Daniel Enemuo, alias Diarrassouba Mamadou, on January 4.
The latter is also on trial at the Tangerang District Court.
Presiding judge Maha Nikmah adjourned the hearing until August 16 to hear the defendant's defense statement. -- JP
