Promoting Local Wisdom-Based Innovation, Toyota Expands TEY to Toraja
JAKARTA - Toyota Indonesia has launched the Toyota Eco Youth (TEY) Nusantara Exploration in North Toraja, South Sulawesi. This initiative aims to broaden participation while introducing the TEY programme, which has been running for 20 years.
Held in Rantepao, North Toraja, the TEY also serves as a strategic step to uncover the potential of students through the development of innovative environmental ideas across Indonesia.
In this edition, Toyota Indonesia partnered with State Vocational High School (SMKN) 2 Rantepao to introduce the TEY programme, along with several other schools in the region.
President Director of TMMIN, Nandi Julyanto, stated that this visit represents a direct approach to encourage active participation from students in addressing environmental challenges in their areas.
“Through direct interaction with students and schools, Toyota Indonesia opens up space for ideas to emerge that stem from an understanding of local environmental conditions, while promoting more relevant and applicable solutions in society,” Nandi said at SMKN 2 Rantepao, North Toraja, South Sulawesi, on Wednesday (15/4/2026).
Toraja is regarded as one of the regions in Indonesia that reflects the richness of local potential and has a close connection to environmental sustainability.
This approach opens opportunities for innovations to arise from local wisdom that are relevant to the specific environmental needs of the area.
“Local wisdom in every region holds great potential as a solution to environmental challenges. Through TEY Nusantara Exploration, we encourage the younger generation to transform that potential into tangible innovations that have an impact,” he added.
TEY Nusantara Exploration is an initiative to introduce TEY, one of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in the field of environmental conservation based on an innovation project competition for high school students and equivalents across Indonesia.
Since it was first held in 2005, TEY has consistently promoted increased awareness and active participation of the younger generation in environmental issues. To date, the event has involved more than 2,083 schools from 34 provinces, with a total of 9,972 environmental project ideas competed.
