Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ustaz Abi Makki, as a witness, stated that the victims were promised schooling in Egypt, which served as the modus operandi of the preacher Syekh Ahmad Al-Misry, or SAM, in the case of alleged sexual abuse against his students in the Bogor area.

“The enticement was that they would be sent to school for free in Egypt; some victims have already been sent to Egypt,” said Ustaz Abi Makki to reporters in South Jakarta on Thursday.

The witness mentioned that SAM’s modus operandi involved inviting his students to listen to his lectures and then promising them the opportunity to study in Egypt.

Furthermore, according to him, the money used by SAM to send his students to Egypt did not come from his own funds. Instead, it was from community or congregation donations collected to help fellow Muslims in need, particularly the students.

He added that in 2021, SAM had allegedly committed abuse against his students. At that time, the victims, along with student teachers and religious figures, conducted an investigation into SAM.

Eventually, SAM issued an apology and promised not to commit any further acts of alleged same-sex sexual abuse.

However, he said, instead of repenting, in 2025, the student teachers received confessions from the students that SAM had resumed similar acts. The student teachers then gathered to discuss it and eventually met with their teacher, Habib Mahdi.

“It had been cut off since 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025—about four years—in late November (2025), we interviewed Ustazah Oki with the victim; Ustazah Oki immediately reported it to us, Habib Maki, that he (SAM) hasn’t recovered. We hoped that from the 2021 incident, he would recover, be deterred, you know,” he said.

From that case, a report was made to the National Police Headquarters regarding the alleged abuse committed by SAM against his students. The students, who previously did not dare to speak out, finally recounted the incidents they had experienced.

Abi added that the victims in this case ranged from minors to adults. They were abused repeatedly by SAM.

In fact, the acts were committed several times at places of worship, which has left the victims traumatised to this day.

“The victims couldn’t do anything, they were confused and just complied because he conveyed things adapted to religion; all the victims are male,” he said.

The alleged same-sex sexual abuse case, suspected to have been committed by SAM against his students in the Bogor area, was reported to the National Police Headquarters on 28 November 2025 with report number LP/B/586/XI/2025/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI dated 28 November 2025.
