Projected to Strengthen, IHSG Opens Higher Despite Declines in Asian Markets and Wall Street
Jakarta – The IHSG opened stronger by 31 points or 0.44% at the level of 7,122 during Tuesday’s trading session on 31 March 2026.
Head of Retail Research at BNI Sekuritas, Fanny Suherman, predicts that the IHSG has the potential to strengthen in today’s trading.
“The IHSG has the potential to strengthen modestly today,” said Fanny in her daily research on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.
She stated that Pacific Asia stock markets weakened during Monday’s trading on 30 March 2026, in line with rising investor concerns over prolonged conflict in the Gulf region, which is pushing up oil prices and global inflation risks.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 index plunged 2.8%, and the Topix fell 2.9%. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped 0.81%, China’s CSI 300 weakened 0.24%, and Australia’s ASX 200 declined 0.65%. South Korea’s Kospi fell 2.97%, and the Kosdaq weakened 3.02%.
Market pressure was caused by rising energy prices following heightened tensions in the Middle East, including threats of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil distribution route.
“IHSG support is at the level of 6,900-7,000, while IHSG resistance is in the range of 7,150-7,280,” she said.
For information, major Wall Street stock indices closed mixed, with the majority declining during Monday’s trading on 30 March 2026. This was due to pressure from rising oil prices and a correction in technology stocks. The S&P 500 fell 0.39%, the Nasdaq Composite weakened 0.73%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose slightly by 0.11%.
Meanwhile, the West Texas Intermediate crude oil price was recorded at US$102.88 per barrel, and Brent crude reached US$112.78 per barrel.
On the other hand, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell stated that inflation expectations remain relatively contained in the long term despite rising energy prices. He emphasised that the central bank will not take policy steps in the near term, as the economic impact from the surge in oil prices and geopolitical conflict remains uncertain.
On the geopolitical side, US President Donald Trump gave positive signals that the conflict with Iran could potentially ease. He mentioned that the US is engaging in serious talks with more moderate parties. However, Trump also warned that if a peace agreement is not reached soon and the Strait of Hormuz is not opened, the US is prepared to destroy Iran’s major energy facilities.
