Progress of People's School in Nganjuk Only 15 Percent, Minister of Public Works Angry
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has highlighted the slow construction of the People’s School in Nganjuk, East Java. The project’s progress is considered to be lagging behind other areas.
“Let’s talk about Nganjuk first. Nganjuk is indeed very behind, right? It’s only about 15 percent. What I don’t like about my team is that when I come, they give excuses for why it’s behind. Instead of giving suggestions on how to catch up. No. Excuses,” said Dody.
He also alluded to the alleged lack of firmness towards the project service providers. This situation is seen as potentially causing speculation.
“I’m a bit confused too. Why does my team seem afraid of the service providers? There are rumours out there. The service providers give something to my team, but it’s just rumours, I can’t prove it. But the facts I received in the field, like what happened in Nganjuk yesterday,” he stated.
The People’s School programme is a priority of President Prabowo Subianto to reduce extreme poverty. Dody assessed that the project implementation must proceed seriously and on time.
He found discrepancies between the target usage and the project contract schedule.
“It turns out the People’s School contract ends on 23 July. Well, this seems like it’s going against the President’s orders. The President’s order is that in July, our younger siblings enter the new People’s School. Then the contract ends on 23 July. Yeah, I’m confused too,” he said.
This situation is seen as potentially hindering the utilisation of the facilities at the beginning of July 2026.
He also asked civil servants to work professionally and focus on completing the programme.
Although criticising the project in Nganjuk, Dody appreciated the People’s School construction in Surabaya. The progress of the project in this area is considered to be running according to plan.
Several projects, including those carried out by PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, show better development compared to other areas.
